Vivaldis Ben-Spiro is an advanced, prescription-only dual-action veterinary cardiac medication engineered for the comprehensive treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs. This specialized chewable tablet provides an FDA-approved multi-tiered approach by combining two critical cardiac compounds: Spironolactone (available in 40mg or 80mg) and Benazepril Hydrochloride (available in 5mg or 10mg). It is heavily prescribed for managing advanced heart disease caused by myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) and atrioventricular valvular insufficiency (AVVI).
The formulation works by aggressively blocking the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS) at two distinct points in the cascade. Benazepril acts as a potent ACE inhibitor that dilates blood vessels to reduce arterial pressure and ease the peripheral resistance against which the heart must pump. Simultaneously, Spironolactone works as a potassium-sparing diuretic and aldosterone antagonist, preventing dangerous fluid buildup (pulmonary edema or ascites) while protecting cardiac tissues against long-term, destructive myocardial fibrosis (scarring). Studies show that adding spironolactone alongside an ACE inhibitor reduces the risk of mortality in cardiac dogs by 69%. Administered orally once daily with food, these palatable tablets safely lower the heart's workload, control blood pressure, and significantly improve the daily stamina and survival time of canines dealing with chronic heart failure.
