Corise Taclimus Eye Ointment is a prescription-only veterinary immunomodulatory ophthalmic treatment formulated to manage severe, chronic dry eye and immune-mediated ocular disorders in dogs. The active pharmaceutical ingredient, Tacrolimus (0.1% w/w), is a potent macrolide immunosuppressant derived from the soil bacterium Streptomyces tsukubaensis. It operates at a cellular level as a calcineurin inhibitor, blocking T-lymphocyte activation and halting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines that drive autoimmune destruction.
In canine medicine, Taclimus is primarily indicated for the clinical treatment of Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS), commonly known as "dry eye syndrome." It is especially valued as an alternative when a dog has developed a resistance or intolerance to standard Cyclosporine therapies. By dampening localized autoimmune reactions within the lacrimal (tear) glands, Tacrolimus stimulates natural tear production and stabilizes the tear film. This helps prevent progressive corneal scarring, counteracts pigmentary keratitis (pigment buildup on the eye surface), and manages Chronic Superficial Keratitis (Pannus). Applied topically under veterinary supervision, this sterile ointment protects corneal health, reduces mucus discharge, and preserves long-term vision.
