| Target Species | Canines and Felines (Dogs dealing with acute primary open-angle glaucoma; pets experiencing focal hypotrichosis/eyelash thinning) |
| Common Use Case | Rapid emergency reduction and long-term control of high intraocular pressure (IOP); slowing the progression of primary glaucoma to preserve vision; therapeutic management of hypotrichosis to promote longer, thicker eyelash growth; and enhancing fluid outflow through alternative uveoscleral pathways when traditional pathways are blocked. |
Corise Opthoprost (3ml) is a high-potency, prescription-only veterinary prostaglandin analog ophthalmic solution engineered for the rapid reduction and management of dangerously elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in pets. The active pharmaceutical ingredient, Bimatoprost (0.03% w/v), is a synthetic structural analog of prostaglandin F2a. It operates by mimicking natural signaling molecules to fundamentally alter fluid dynamics within the eye.
When glaucoma compromises the primary drainage pathways, Opthoprost works by radically increasing fluid outflow through the unconventional, alternative uveoscleral pathway. This mechanism lowers pressure quickly—often dropping IOP significantly within 45 to 60 minutes of administration. In canine medicine, it is a premier choice for treating acute primary open-angle glaucoma, helping to safeguard the optic nerve and prevent permanent blindness. While marketed for both species and clinically known to induce localized pupil constriction (miosis) in both, clinical studies show that bimatoprost is highly effective at lowering eye pressure in dogs but has a limited effect on the internal eye pressure of cats. Additionally, a unique biological side effect of bimatoprost is its ability to treat hypotrichosis by stimulating hair follicles to grow thicker, protective eyelashes.
