Veko Lightsense K (5ml) is a prescription-strength, dual-action veterinary ophthalmic solution formulated to treat complicated superficial eye infections accompanied by acute inflammation and localized pain in dogs and cats. The advanced therapeutic formula combines a potent fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic with a high-performance non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID): Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride (0.5% w/v) and Ketorolac Tromethamine (0.5% w/v), preserved with Benzalkonium Chloride Solution (0.02% w/v).
Each component is meticulously paired to address distinct aspects of ocular trauma and infection. Moxifloxacin provides rapid, broad-spectrum bactericidal action against tricky Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting essential enzymes required for bacterial DNA replication. Ketorolac Tromethamine acts as a localized NSAID that safely inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, providing direct relief from burning, severe swelling, and deep eye discomfort without the systemic risks associated with corticosteroid drops. In companion animal medicine, Lightsense K is highly effective for managing severe bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye), bacterial keratitis, orbital cellulitis, and painful inflammation secondary to mature cataracts. It is also an essential clinical tool for post-operative management following delicate intraocular surgeries.
Critical Safety Contraindication: Combination antibiotic-NSAID eye drops like Lightsense K are strictly contraindicated in cases of deep, active, or melting corneal ulcers. Ketorolac can delay corneal cell regeneration (re-epithelialization) and mask escalating pain signals that would otherwise alert a pet parent to a worsening ulcer. A veterinarian must always perform a fluorescein stain test to confirm the cornea is completely intact before this medication is introduced.
