Ek Tek Tobivate (5ml) is a prescription-strength, topical veterinary ophthalmic solution formulated to eliminate superficial bacterial infections of the eye and its surrounding structures in dogs and cats. The specialized formula contains Tobramycin (0.3% w/v), sterilely prepared in an aqueous buffered vehicle.
Tobramycin is a potent, water-soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic that delivers rapid, broad-spectrum bactericidal action. It works at the cellular level by binding irreversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, disrupting bacterial protein synthesis and causing cell death. Tobramycin is highly effective against a diverse array of Gram-negative pathogens—including difficult-to-treat organisms like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus species, and Escherichia coli—as well as many Gram-positive Staphylococcus species.
Because it is a single-ingredient antibiotic drop that contains no corticosteroids, Tobivate is highly valued by veterinary ophthalmologists. It can be safely utilized to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye), blepharitis, and keratitis even when the cornea is damaged, or to prevent secondary opportunistic infections while managing a corneal scratch or ulcer.
