Azista Fresh Hug (100ml) is a gentle, highly effective veterinary otic cleansing solution designed for routine aural hygiene, excess wax removal, and maintenance care in dogs and cats. The non-irritating formula features a clinically balanced combination of a deep-cleansing keratolytic agent and a protective antimicrobial helper: Salicylic Acid IP (0.2% w/v) and Phenoxyethanol IP (0.35% w/v), sterilely prepared in a soothing aqueous vehicle.
Each active pharmaceutical component works to stabilize the microenvironment of the external ear canal:
- Keratolytic & Cerumenolytic Action: Salicylic Acid acts as an efficient wax-dissolving agent. It chemically softens and thins out stubborn, greasy earwax plugs, helps lift away sloughed dead skin cells, and breaks up accumulated dirt and environmental debris without requiring aggressive mechanical wiping. It also reduces excess internal moisture.
- Antimicrobial Protection: Phenoxyethanol functions as an effective topical antimicrobial agent, actively inhibiting the reproduction and growth of opportunistic bacteria and fungi.
By keeping the ear canal clean, dry, and slightly acidic, Fresh Hug disrupts the perfect breeding ground for recurrent yeast overgrowths (Malassezia) and bacterial infections. It effectively eliminates sour, foul ear odors, reduces surface itching, and calms localized irritation. It is widely utilized by pet parents for weekly hygiene maintenance and by veterinary clinicians as a prerequisite pre-treatment flush to clear out structural wax barriers before applying topical prescription antibiotic drops.
Critical Safety Warning: Fresh Hug Ear Cleanser must never be administered if the pet's eardrum (tympanic membrane) is suspected to be torn, ruptured, or perforated. Infusing liquid solutions past a damaged eardrum can cause deep-seated middle ear complications or permanent balance loss (vestibular toxicity). A veterinarian should always verify that the eardrum is completely intact using an otoscope prior to starting a routine ear-flushing regimen.
